All DuckDuckGo AI features are optional. Users can independently toggle Duck.ai and Search Assist on or off through Search Settings and browser settings. Visiting noai.duckduckgo.com disables all AI features in one step.

DuckDuckGo Search Assist generates brief, cited AI answers inline in search results for relevant queries. It always links to one or two source pages so users can verify or read further.

Duck.ai allows anyone to chat with AI models without creating an account or logging in. Access is free at duck.ai, duckduckgo.com/chat, via the Chat tab in search results, and via !ai / !chat bang shortcuts.

Duck.ai's Recent Chats feature saves past conversations on the user's own device, not on DuckDuckGo servers. Users can pin up to 5 conversations and delete individual chats or all at once via the Fire Button.

Users can change the active AI model at any time during a session by selecting from the model list in the sidebar or using the arrows beneath a model's last response.

Duck.ai provides access to multiple third-party AI chat models from different providers — including OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, and Mistral — through a single interface. All models are served with the same privacy proxy regardless of which is selected.

Duck.ai is free for all users with no account required, subject to daily usage limits. DuckDuckGo Plus and Pro paid subscriptions unlock advanced models and higher limits; Plus and Pro also bundle VPN and privacy services.

DuckDuckGo proxies all AI chat requests through its own servers, stripping user IP addresses and personal metadata before forwarding to model providers. Contractual agreements with all providers prohibit using chat data to train models and require deletion within 30 days.

Duck.ai supports real-time voice conversation with AI models. Audio streams to OpenAI through an encrypted relay that DuckDuckGo cannot decrypt, and neither DDG nor OpenAI retains any voice recording after the session ends.
