Consensus capabilities

Beyond returning a list of papers, Consensus writes a synthesized answer that summarises and reconciles the findings across the retrieved studies, with inline citations back to each paper. Pro Analysis (the feature formerly called Copilot) lets you give a follow-up command so the AI drafts content, explains concepts, or collates the research for you.

An AI search engine that answers research questions by retrieving from a corpus of over 220 million peer-reviewed scientific papers, rather than the general web. Results are returned as a ranked list of real papers, each with an AI-extracted relevance summary, so every answer is grounded in citable published literature.

Consensus's signature feature: for a yes/no research question, it visualises the degree of scientific agreement across the analysed studies, showing how many support 'yes', 'no', or 'possibly/mixed'. It turns a body of literature into an at-a-glance read on where the science stands instead of a single unsourced answer.

Consensus is available inside ChatGPT, so you can run its academic-paper search from within a ChatGPT conversation. Once connected and enabled, ChatGPT can use Consensus to search real peer-reviewed papers and cite the research it finds, bringing scientific evidence into an existing ChatGPT workflow.

Consensus is sold as a freemium product with a free tier plus paid individual plans and a team/enterprise offering. The free plan covers unlimited basic search and the Consensus Meter; the paid tiers unlock the higher-effort AI features (such as Deep Search and greater Pro Analysis volume) and larger monthly usage allowances.

Per-paper analysis tools. A Study Snapshot uses AI to extract the key details of a single study - population studied, study design, outcomes, results, and sample size - in one click. Ask Paper lets you chat with the full text of a paper, asking questions about its methodology, figures, or specifics and getting answers with the exact passage highlighted.
