Migration
Migrate from pdf-ai to chatgpt.
1 documentation-derived translation pattern — what carries over and what to watch for. Cited to the Feature Parity Map; the audit tells you whether the move is worth it.
Replace PDF.ai's upload-and-ask flow by attaching the PDF directly in ChatGPT (paperclip or drag-and-drop) and asking the same questions; ChatGPT reads the document and answers, with Code Interpreter available for extraction and analysis over the file. For a durable multi-document corpus, put the PDFs in a ChatGPT Project so every chat in it can reference them, which is closer to PDF.ai's library experience.
Gotchas
- Warning: ChatGPT analyzes the file but does not return PDF.ai-style cited source passages that point back to the exact spot in the document; ask it to quote the source text to verify answers.
- Warning: ChatGPT's native reading is best on text-based PDFs; PDF.ai's OCR is built for scanned/image PDFs, so heavily scanned documents may need OCR before ChatGPT can use them well. Plan limits (file size, number of files, message caps) also differ from PDF.ai's tiers.
