Migrate from pika to runway.
1 documentation-derived translation pattern — what carries over and what to watch for. Cited to the Feature Parity Map; the audit tells you whether the move is worth it.
Move Pika 2.5 text-to-video and image-to-video generation into Runway's Gen-4 / Gen-4.5 text-and-image-to-video. Re-create each Pika clip as a Runway generation: a text prompt alone, or a reference image as the first frame plus a prompt. Runway's credit model is comparable in shape (credits per second of video), so budget by seconds rather than by Pika's per-clip credit estimates. Use Runway paid plans (Standard $12/mo+) since Gen-4/Gen-4.5 is gated off the free tier, the same way Pika gates 480p-and-up behind paid plans. For repeatable production, Runway also exposes a developer API (node:runway/developer-api) which Pika's consumer video product does not offer.
- Warning: Pika's signature one-tap preset transforms (Pikaffects like squish/melt/inflate) have no direct Runway equivalent; in Runway these looks must be driven by prompt and reference image, so simple viral effects become more manual.
- Warning: Runway's free tier cannot run Gen-4/Gen-4.5 at all and watermarks outputs, whereas Pika's free tier still produces (watermarked, 480p, image-to-video-only) clips -- so the cheapest like-for-like Runway path starts at the Standard paid plan.
