Migrate from runway to sora.
1 documentation-derived translation pattern — what carries over and what to watch for. Cited to the Feature Parity Map; the audit tells you whether the move is worth it.
Move Sora video work onto Runway's Gen-4 / Gen-4.5 text-and-image-to-video. The core workflow transfers directly: a text prompt (optionally with a reference image as the first frame) produces a short clip with generated audio in both tools. In Runway, generate from the web app on any paid plan (Standard $12/mo and up); attach a first-frame image for image-to-video, and use Pro-and-above to upscale to 4K. This is a timely consolidation because the standalone Sora app was discontinued on April 26, 2026 and the Sora Videos API shuts down September 24, 2026, whereas Runway is an actively maintained destination with its own API. Re-create recurring Sora prompts as Runway prompts, and export your existing Sora MP4s before the Sora surfaces close so they can be re-used or restyled in Runway.
- Warning: Sora is being wound down (app gone April 26, 2026; API shutdown September 24, 2026), so this is a forced off-boarding, not an A/B choice — pull your Sora MP4s out first.
- Warning: Clip lengths differ: Sora 2 generates 16-20s (extendable to 120s); Runway Gen-4.5 generates roughly 5-10s clips by default, so storyboard long pieces as multiple Runway shots.
- Warning: Sora's signature consent-gated personal 'cameo' (insert your own verified likeness) has no equivalent in Runway, and human-likeness generation is restricted in both products' APIs — do not assume face-insertion carries over.
- Warning: Runway bills in credits ($0.01 each, e.g. ~25 credits/sec for Gen-4.5) rather than Sora's per-second API or ChatGPT-bundled access, so re-estimate cost per second before migrating heavy volume.
