Migrate from Spinach to Otter.
2 documentation-derived translation patterns — what carries over and what to watch for. Cited to the Feature Parity Map; the audit tells you whether the move is worth it.
Both tools auto-generate a post-meeting AI summary capturing key points and decisions, so a team on Otter can drop Spinach's summary workflow. After each call Otter produces a structured summary (key topics, decisions, and action items) and emails it to the host and calendar guests, and the summary is saved on the Otter conversation page linked to transcript timestamps. To replace Spinach's delivery: rely on Otter's Meeting Summary email to the host and guests, and connect Otter's Slack integration to post summaries to the same channels Spinach posted to. Cut Spinach once Otter's summary email and Slack posting are confirmed for your team.
- Warning: Spinach tailors summaries to the agile ceremony (standup, sprint planning, retro) out of the box; Otter's equivalent customization (custom summary templates / custom AI workflows) is gated to Business and Enterprise, so on Otter Free/Pro you get a generic structured summary rather than a ceremony-specific recap.
- Warning: Spinach can also draft a recap email as a post-meeting task and supports custom branding/sharing of summaries on Business; Otter's summary is delivered as a fixed-format Meeting Summary email, so branded or templated recaps may need Otter Business+ or a manual step.
- Warning: Otter folds action items into the same summary node, while Spinach treats action-item capture and routing as a separate capability; if the team relied on Spinach pushing tasks into Jira/Asana/Linear, re-establish that routing separately (via Otter integrations or Zapier) rather than assuming the summary alone replaces it.
- Warning: Summary quality on Otter depends on transcript quality, which is strongest in English; for non-English meetings the summary may be weaker than Spinach's, which transcribes 100+ languages.
Both tools auto-join scheduled calls and produce a real-time, speaker-attributed transcript, so a team already on Otter can retire Spinach's notetaker. To move off Spinach: connect Otter's Meeting Agent to the same Google/Outlook calendar so it auto-joins your Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams meetings in place of Spinach. For any Spinach meetings you must keep, export them from Spinach first (open each meeting in Meeting History and copy/download the transcript and summary, or use Spinach's Zapier/Transcript & AI Summary API to pull them out) before cancelling, since there is no direct Spinach-to-Otter transfer. After cutover, recording and transcription live entirely in the Otter library, which is stored and searchable.
- Warning: Language coverage shrinks sharply: Spinach transcribes 100+ languages, whereas Otter fully supports only English, Spanish, French, and Japanese (German and Chinese Simplified are in beta). A non-English-heavy team should confirm Otter covers their languages before cutting Spinach.
- Warning: Otter meters by transcription minutes and caps per-meeting length: Free 300 min/month at 30 min per conversation, Pro 1,200 min/month at 90 min per meeting, Business unlimited at up to 4 hours. Spinach Pro/Business allow up to 3-hour meetings with unlimited meetings, so long or high-volume calls may need Otter Business.
- Warning: Webex and Slack Huddles are not covered by Otter's Meeting Agent (Otter auto-joins Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams only); teams that recorded Webex/Huddle calls in Spinach lose that capture path.
- Warning: Recording retention differs: Spinach offers up to 1-year retention on paid tiers with custom retention on Enterprise; verify Otter's storage/retention on your target plan before relying on long-term access to past recordings.
